About the Journal
Nomica Chronica was founded in 2022 as a scientific journal of a new formation aimed at the complex development of Russian law.
Our journal is built on three fundamental principles: academic freedom, strict observance of publication ethics, and the non-commercial nature of science and research.
We understand the principle of academic freedom as the right to express any scientifically substantiated position within the framework of legal discourse. We are convinced that law is not a science in which only one opinion is possible forever; it is through discussion that law can continually develop its dogmatic foundations.
The principle of strict observance of publication ethics means that the editorial board the world’s generally accepted standards for leading legal journals in terms of manuscript handling, editorial requirements, and publication of legal research.
The principle of the non-commercial nature of science is expressed in the fact that we are against charging for publications, against the dissemination of knowledge for money. Legal knowledge is the basis for the free development not only of aspiring lawyers, but also of every member of society. By commercializing the science of law, we make it inaccessible to people, so the content published within the magazine is free and distributed under a Creative Commons license.
As you know, Juridicheskaya Letopis’ was a monthly legal journal published in St. Petersburg from 1890 to 1892. N. D. Sergeevsky, professor emeritus of St. Petersburg University, was the editor-publisher; N. F. Deryuzhinsky, A. A. Isaev, and N. M. Korkunov were regular contributors. Besides them, A.F. Koni, N.V. Muravyev, N.S. Tagantsev, and V.K. Sluchevsky collaborated in the journal.
In 2022, 130 years later, the editor-in-chief and the deputy editor-in-chief, supported by the editorial board, decided to resume publication of this glorious journal, breathing new life into its content, thus continuing the legal chronicle of our days.
The editors of the journal are striving to preserve the best traditions of the Russian jurisprudence of the 19th century and to augment every issue with the wealth of legal thought of the present.
We hope for a fruitful and long-term cooperation with each author, so that each could reflect his thoughts on the pages of the Legal Chronicle of the present for reading the Legal Chronicle of the past by the descendants!
